Twitter is a social utility tool that has gained popularity in the last year. Starting from usage in the tech crowd, it has jumped over to mainstream use by companies, people, public officials, and even some pets.

Interview with Meetup CEO & Chief Community Officer

We had the opportunity to meet with Scott Heiferman and Douglas Atkin, from Meetup. Scott is the CEO and co-founder, and Douglas is the Chief Community Officer. They were in Washington D.C. this month to meet with some of the meetup organizers, and after the meeting we did a quick interview.

In the interview, Scott & Douglas talked about how & why Meetup started, and some of the background & intentions of their new Meetup Alliance.

Meetup was started in 2002, and now has about 5 million members, organized into groups that are linked to thousands of topics.

In Singapore, there is a government-sponsored event around Valentine’s Day called “Romancing Singapore“, and one event is “Love In A Capsule” that has among it’s organizers a social networking Clique Wise.

There are at least two new facebook applications released this month (Feb 2008) that are strictly Valentine’s-related, and likely more that slipped past our searching. There also is a travel social networking site launching on Valentine’s Day.

Word is one gentleman with no Valentine’s Date set up a pimped-up Facebook profile with 1500 applications, of which 600 are for daing purposes. He’s totally ready for a social-networking Valentine’s Day. He’s also posted a video which we have on our site, which talks about how to make the most awesome profile page ever. Key is to promise to change your “relationship status” on Facebook for that “special” person… changing your status to “in a relationship”.

And, besides friend-based networking sites such as MySpace and Facebook, traffic is up now for Valentine’s Day at dating sites. This is according to the web metrics firm Hitwise, as reported on WebWare.com, which listed the top ranked site as SinglesNet.com. There also was a question as to if Craigslist personals posting also increased?

So, have no date for Valentine’s Day?Â But, maybe you have a lot of creativity?Â This man created a pumped-up Facebook profile with over 600 dating-related apps, part of 1500 applications installed in his profile.Â Then, he made a video to attract attention… it caught ours!
